J2-M172

Y chromosome haplogroup J2 (J-M172) research: variation, distribution, frequency. Y-DNA paternal ancestry.

J2-M172 Stats from FTDNA Y-DNA Haplotree (BigY) and YFull YTree

Current subclades (FamilyTreeDNA) and id’s (YFull YTree v11.04.00) analysis. It is biased against customers of Y-clusters or regions of which descendants do more BigY/NGS testing (Ashkenazi/Europe, Northwest Europe, Georgia, Armenia, Rhine/Germans, Arabia, Russia, others Europe, etc.). 46 Pre-Chalcolithic J-M172 main sub-haplogroups

With the goal to simplify the grouping and assignation an analysis of the YFull YTree v9.03.00 J2 Scientific View was done in August 2021. See for comparison Basic Tree Subclades of 2015 and FamilyTreeDNA Y-DNA Haplotree and Time Tree @ Discover FTDNA. Criteria: Resulting 46 J-M172 Sub-Haplogroups are linked, older ancestor groups mentioned for hierarchical reasons. If FamilyTreeDNA Y-DNA Haplotree uses […]

Y-SNP analysis of I4331, J2b2a-L283, Bronze Age Croatia – Mathieson et al. 2018

New DNA paper from Mathieson et al. 2018, The Genomic History of Southeastern Europe, gave us ancient DNA data from 225 individuals who lived in southeastern Europe and surroundings. Supplementary information from the paper states one of the sites analyzed was the Veliki Vanik burial mound, which is located near the town of Vrgorac in Split-Dalmatia County, in southern Croatia. […]

J2-M172@FTDNA Project Administration Changes Announcement

As many of you may know or have noticed the main Administration and Support of the J2-M172@FTDNA Project by Chris Rottensteiner since February 2017 has declined considerably, caused by considerably less free time which makes volunteer working  on the daily and weekly tasks impossible at the same pace as I did from 2012 to 2016 . My fellow Co-Admins in J2 […]

J2a-Z6048: refinement in the no-Caucasus J2a* clade

Recent new NextGenSequence results being derived/positive for J2a-Z6048 (old J2a* and without considerable Caucasus presence like the brother SK1321/Y12622) allowed a substantial improvement of the phylogeny. See also tree.j2-m172.info/?Hg=J2a1b1, yfull.com/tree/J-Z6050/ Wim Penninx helped by filtering reliable combBED area SNPs from the two Punjab samples. The YFull raw-data analysis of the Sardinian samples is the only way to reconstruct satisfyingly reliable […]

Refinement for J2b2a-M241 (including L283,Z622,Z2447,Z2444)

Just a short content post about a refinement in the most important J2b subclade. The smaller Z2447,Z2444 Asian subclade (in terms of discovered subclades) can bee seen in the post image. The broader L283,Z622 European subclade state can be downloaded as a PDF. L283, CTS5649, CTS5382, Z622, Z612, Z615, Z616, Z617, Z607, Z638, Z594, Z597, Z592, Z582, Z585, Z587, Z588, […]

J2b2b-PH1648,Z2455,Z2454 refined: Y18044,CTS8204 & Z42941>Z42983

One of the oldest paragroups of J2b gets a little refined by cross-analysis of the known samples and the new YFull sample SRR2098211 Qatar which should form an ancestral haplogroup with the Jewish subcluster Z42983. It is not known if the PGP29 sample is also of known Jewish ancestry but a BigY match to B12464 is and shares at least […]

possibly J2b1-M205 basal structure defined: CTS1969,CTS5338,YP13,PH4306,PH1089,Y22066

Further analysis of NextGenSequences at YFull (see yfull.com/tree/J-M205/) combined with results from scientific studies (SNP, VCF & BAM results) has revealed a more consistent and hopefully informative basal substructure for J-M205 (see tree.j2-m172.info/?Hg=J2b1) then what was available at the latest major update: J2b-M205>PH4306: a little substructure for this isolated lineage. See also yfull.com/tree/J-M205/ It seems likely that the many remaining […]
